The Girls Leadership Academy of Arizona (GLAAZ) is the first public, single-gender charter high school in Arizona. It empowers young women to succeed as leaders in their classrooms, in their communities, and in especially their own lives. Our mission is to provide young women an opportunity to achieve high school and college academic success simultaneously while nurturing self-confidence and developing leadership skills in an academically rigorous environment.
With a low student to teacher ratio, GLAAZ adapts Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) into its curriculum. AVID provides implementation support to GLAAZ to ensure every student receives the highest quality of college preparatory assistance.
We achieve this vision by sustaining rigor, relevance and relationships: the hallmarks of a 21st century school. Envisioned as the premier educational option for young women, GLAAZ combines the most successful models of school reform with highly qualified teachers and curricula that connect the work of the school to the life of our community.
The young women of GLAAZ are empowered to:
- Contribute to our community through service learning and civic engagement
- Participate in school-wide initiatives and decision making
- Create meaningful community involvement for students, teachers and parents through service learning, job internships and participation in community-based organizations
- Develop leadership skills in our weekly advisory program, supplemented with “Girl Meets World,” a curriculum also selected by Oprah for her leadership school
